Glenn Meikle, owner of Reggae Love which runs the roots and reggae event, says it made sense to focus on next year’s event, which will be held at Tauranga Domain on January 28-29, 2023, across the Auckland Anniversary long weekend. READ MORE: * Fresh doubts surround One Love Festival - * Omicron sees Womad NZ cancelled for second year in a row * One Love Festival lineup released - Fat Freddy's Drop headline, Sean Kingston to fly in Cancellation of the event, which was due to take place on April 2-3, was announced on Wednesday morning, with ticket holders given the option to refund their tickets or roll them over for the 2023 festival. “We are disappointed for everyone about having to cancel this year, but with the Omnicron situation it would be impossible to go ahead,” said Meikle. “The bands are disappointed, and we had 16,000 people already lined up to come, but the team is staying positive and is focussed on making next year’s event spectacular.” Next year’s line up will include international acts such as UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Sean Kingston, Fiji, Hawaiian bands Rebel SoulJahz and Maoli, and British roots reggae band Steel McKenzie-McLean/StuffUB40, featuring original members Mickey Virtue, Astro and Ali Campbell. Kiwi artists include fan favourites and Tauranga locals along with a host of fellow Aotearoa music legends including Katchafire, Kora and Stan Walker. The 2022 event had already been moved from its initial date in February on Waitangi Weekend due to red light restrictions brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. International acts were then replaced by New Zealand-based artists. Meikle, who also owns Rising Tide restaurant and brewery in Mount Maunganui, has been involved in the festival for many years, but this is his first year at the BURD/ Joel Shadbolt – the band will be at One Love Festival in 2023. “It’s certainly been a ride, and I’ve learned a lot,” he says. “The the focus is now on dealing with the cancellation, and then it will be all go for next year. The festival is known all over the world and Tauranga is such a great place to visit. “Next year we will definitely party again.” One Love Festival - the festival with this years 'biggest reggae line up' - is coming to Bruton. Taking place from Friday, August 31 until Sunday, September 2 at Gilcombe Farm, the festival anticipates people from all around the globe will come to south Somerset in the name of reggae. The festival is supported by Amnesty International UK, with 20 per cent of the proceeds from ticket sales going towards supporting Amnesty's human rights work. The festival is an annual event and moves to a different English location every summer. The festival has grown year by year and is now a major three-day reggae event, which will see some of Reggae's biggest names come to the Somerset countryside. Artists such as: Johnny Clarke, Jerry Dammers, Johnny Osbourne, Zion Train, Might Diamonds and Mad Professor will all be performing as some of the biggest reggae, ska and dub names come from all over the world. The people of Bruton also receive a discount if they wish to go the event, with promoter Dan Wiltshire saying residents can get a third off with a weekend ticket. He said: "It's going to be a really great weekend with something to do for all of the family. It's not just music. "It's an event where there is no judgement and an atmosphere of acceptance where there are no borders. "We've got a longer list of reggae acts than any other reggae festival this year. "We have the Rasta Village where you'll be surrounded by the Rastafarian life in motion. "There's going to be drumming workshops, craftwork workshops, dancing and chanting workshops, art exhibitions, as well as loads of amazing authentic food available. "It's a really big cultural event and a great opportunity to get together with lots of different people and have fun."
